ENNIS SISTERS, HARRY MARTIN, ROD JACKSON, RON HYNES

 

Here on the Country page, I have listed four of the many different country groups and singers that come from the province of Newfoundland. I have given a brief describe of each and also supply a link to their official website or a site with additional information about the group or singer. ENNIS SISTERS  

The Ennis Sisters is a three-member, all female group. The three members are:

Maureen Ennis
Teresa Ennis
Karen Ennis

Since the being of the group Ennis Sisters in the mid 90's, the group has won many awards. Some of the awards that they have won in the past year 2000/2001 are:

--Best country group (Canadian Radio Music Awards)
--Group of the year (East Coast Music Awards)
--Best new Country Artist or Group (Jumo Awards)
--And in 1997, they won the Folk Album of the Year (Music Industry Association of Newfoundland and Labrador) MIANL Award

HARRY MARTIN

Harry Martin is one of the most well known singer and songwriter in Newfoundland and Labrador, which started his career in the early 1960's. In October 1995, Harry received the first "Caring For The Earth" Award from the Quebec Labrador Foundation. Three of the songs that you may have heard by Harry Martin are:

ROD JACKSON

Rod Jackson is a 35 year old arthritis sufferer, who is also a singer and songwriter. In the year 2000, he won the MIANL (Music industry Association of Newfoundland and Labrador) Award for "Country Artist of the Year". Rod is hoping to donate $10,000 dollars to fight the illness of arthritis; from the release of his first album "She Still Guides Me". The song, which you may hear on the radio, is "She Still Guides Me".

RON HYNES

Ron Hynes is a well-established singer, songwriter and actor throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. Ron started his career in the early seventies, and during this time he as received many awards. These awards are as follows:

--Won "Best Song" for The Final Breath at the Genie.
--Five Time "People Choice Award" Winner.
--Three time "East Coast Music Awards" Winner. n 1992 was awarded the Nfld/Labrador Arts Council "Artist of the Year'.
-- 1997 won MIANL (Music industry Association of Newfoundland and Labrador) award for "Song of the Year" and "Male Artist of the Year" for the song "Godspeed".
